| Academic Probation |
| The GLP is committed
to preparing Korean students for international leadership positions
in the 21st century. In the rare occasion that our students
have difficulty to manage the rigorous academic program and
extracurricular activities, our teachers are dedicated to helping
them improve. Accordingly, we follow a proactive and positive,
rather than punitive, approach to academic responsibility that
reinforces standards for ethics, participation, and performance
and help all our students achieve that level of maturity. The
Informative Process
|
| 1. |
The
first step to helping our students succeed is to pair
them with a homeroom teacher with whom they can develop
a model-relationship based on honesty, respect, and professionalism.
When an academic concern arises within class, the class
teacher reports the issue to the homeroom teacher. |
| 2. |
The
homeroom teacher then discusses the issue with the Dean
of Students and the student to customize a program focusing
on enhancing the studentĄ¯s strengths and overcoming their
weaknesses. |
| 3. |
Probation
begins after mid-terms or finals and will continue until
the next round of mid-terms or finals. Components of
the plan will vary but they will be concrete and attainable.
This customized program will be approved by the Dean,
the homeroom teacher, the parents, and the student before
implementation. |
|
The Review Process |
| 1. |
The next step is to review
the studentĄ¯s weekly adherence to the enrichment program.
Any time a student on academic review fails to carry
out any of the components of his or her plan, the studentĄ¯s
teachers will contact the homeroom teacher. For instance,
if the student does not turn in a homework assignment
for math, the math teacher will alert the homeroom teacher. |
| 2. |
At
the end of each week all teachers will write a short
summary of the studentĄ¯s progress and send this to the
homeroom teacher. |
| 3. |
The
homeroom teacher will meet with the student to discuss
each weekĄ¯s progress and prepare a summary report to
be submitted to the Dean of Students and the studentĄ¯s
parents. |
| 4. |
The homeroom
teacher will meet bi-weekly with the parents to update
them on their childĄ¯s progress. |
| 5. |
At the
end of the review, the faculty will decide as a group
whether the student will be a) removed from academic
review; b) kept on academic review for another half-term;
or c) ejected from the school. |
