Physics may be a very hard and unfamiliar subject to befriend. However, if you join our club, physics can be the most exciting and interesting subject in the world for you. Physimaniacs is not a club that makes the members to solve tough problems about physics. We research, debate and write a report about a theory or a real-life phenomenon. Analyzing a phenomenon physically could help you to think critically, systematically and logically.
Before starting to debate about theories and experiments, it is very important to be informed about the very basic theories and laws of physics. We will first cover mechanics, and then electromagnetics, and finally, wave theory and modern physics. This will take about three to four months. As I announced, we will briefly go over the ideas and theories in order to develop our own theses. We are going to be creative thinkers, not problem-solving machines. After covering all the basic theories and laws, we will prepare to participate in KYPT (Korean Young Physicists¡¯ Tournament), a physics debating competition. This competition introduces several topics about physics and asks us to analyze and debate them with other teams. This activity will help us to enhance not only our analytical skills in physics, but also analytical thinking about certain topics. Moreover, we will prepare to write research papers about those topics.
Writing research papers is inevitable to get a master¡¯s or a doctor¡¯s degree in universities and graduate schools. It is extremely beneficial for our members, who will be writing those kinds of papers in the future, to practice this. As a leader of this club, I have experience in writing research papers from when I was attending a gifted-youth education center in Kyoung-buk National University. This experience and my relationship with a professor in that system will help our club to produce well-written research papers. We will also try to publish our works in science magazines.
In addition to these fantastic opportunities, the GLP has decided to install a decent laboratory for scientific experiments. With this facility, we could even invent our own experiments and write several papers about them. Designing a systematic experiment for a hypothesis regarding a theorem or a certain law of physics is really important not only for physicists but also for every people who want to succeed academically. The facility will help us as we write and debate about some topics about physics. This is another great advantage for us, the future leaders and scientists of the world.
Richard Feynman, one of the most famous and influential physicists of twentieth century, has popularized physics. Our club¡¯s motivation is the same. Physics is a very enjoyable and interesting subject that you can find on the face of the Earth. By constructing the knowledge about the basic physical terms, we will strengthen our ability to analyze observed facts. After analyzing, we will practice to write research papers about it, and even publish our papers in renowned magazines if possible. Physimaniacs, our club, will help you to enjoy and uncover the terra incognita of our unconscious talents of physics.
